Influence of Natural Aging on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Gravity Casting Al-Cu-Mg Alloy

Abstract For the Al-5.0Cu-0.8Mg alloy fabricated by gravity casting, 12h natural aging was added between solution and artificial to study its influence on microstructure mechanical properties. The transitional phases form during following solution, leading a significant increase in microhardness. Meanwhile, this variation accelerates formation growth of stable strengthening same aging. Unfortunately, 12 h work excessively coarsens precipitation, which results properties reduction including ultimate stress from 332 MPa 302 MPa, especially elongation 8.1% 3.7%. indicate that exploring favorable match is further finely control precipitation characteristic, contributes better Al-Cu-Mg alloy.
